DIPLOMAS

Institute's graduates are awarded state diplomas of four levels: Bachelor of Arts, Specialist, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, depending on the number of years spent, classes taken and credits received.
Matriculated students are enrolled for only one type of study: full-time.

The Bachelor’s Degree – 4 years (undergraduate education).

Those holding a secondary school certificate or a recognised equivalent diploma are eligible to apply for a bachelor’s programme. All the bachelor’s programmes include training in liberal arts and in the student’s chosen field.

Bachelor’s Programmes:

  • Philosophy
  • Conflictology
  • Applied Ethics
  • Religious Studies
  • Cultural Studies

The Specialist Degree — 5 years (undergraduate education)

Those holding a secondary school certificate or a recognized equivalent are eligible to apply for a programme leading to a Specialist Diploma. This five-year programme is traditional for the Russian system of higher education. The programme includes general undergraduate study courses, with an emphasis on the student’s field of specialisation along with research work.

Specialist Programme:

  • Expert Examination and Attribution of Cultural Objects

The Master’s Degree – 2 years (graduate education)

Those holding a bachelor’s degree or its recognized equivalent are eligible to apply for a two-year master’s program. Students undertaking a master’s programme normally major in the same field as they did as undergraduates. However many programmes do not require undergraduate specialisation in the same field. To graduate with a Master’s degree, a student needs to successfully complete the course and defend a Master’s thesis.

Master’s Programmes:

  • Philosophy
  • Conflictology
  • Applied Ethics
  • Religious Studies
  • Cultural Studies

The Doctoral Degree

Those holding a Master’s degree or a Specialist Diploma are eligible to apply for a doctoral programme. The Institute accepts up to 40 doctoral students each year on the results of the entrance exams. A doctoral programme normally takes 3 years to complete. During the first year of study a candidate must take 3 comprehensive examinations and submit a dissertation proposal. Usually two more years are required to carry out research towards the dissertation and defend it. Candidates are assigned academic advisers chosen from a pool of leading experts in the field of research.
